Sometimes "It" Happens
This basement restroom in Grand Rapids, MI experienced a sewage backup. The homeowners did not mistreat the toilet, in fact the toilet was not installed yet; the house was still being built. This is a prime example of something happening completely outside of the homeowner's control.
Sometimes measures can be taken to prevent a loss, sometimes not. This person had the foresight to understand the potential concerns involved when dealing with a sewage loss: airborne bacteria, proper cleaning equipment, cross-contamination, and proper personal protection. When this disaster hit they called SERVPRO of South and Northwest Grand Rapids to spring into action.
The "after" picture was taken the same day as the "before" picture. The professional crew worked quickly and effectively to clean up the debris and apply a SERVPRO proprietary anti-microbial to kill the remaining germs.
